Benefits of Training
- Better Productivity and Quality
Appropriate training can lead to improved performance by workers, better productivity and better quality of product. It can also lead to less downtime, because workers know how to do their jobs safely, correctly, and efficiently.
- Meeting Legislated Requirements
The Occupational Health and Safety Act and various Regulations require employers to train workers. This means Employers and Supervisors have a legal requirement to ensure workers are trained. Employers and Supervisors can be charged and face fines if a worker who has not been trained is injured on the job.
- Avoiding Potential Injury to Untrained Workers
An untrained worker is more likely to be injured on the job. If a worker is injured you may lose the services of that person for days or weeks. You will have to find someone to replace the injured worker, and train them to do the job. Your WSIB costs can be very high, which will possibly cost you a penalty on your premiums. If it is a serious injury your operation may be shut down for the duration of the investigation by the Ministry of Labour Inspector.
- Avoiding Potential Damage Done by Untrained Workers
Untrained workers may cause damage to materials, equipment and machinery if they do not know how to use it properly. You could be faced with the loss of production because of equipment that does not operate, and the cost of repair to the equipment, and the cost of replacing damaged materials. You may also be faced with being unable to meet promised delivery dates.
